November is a month to be thankful
The first Thanksgiving was in 1621, almost four centuries ago. President George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln were all grateful for America, for the people of America and for every blessing that they beheld.
While Rivergrove is a small community in population, it is a huge community in many ways. It's citizens who participate, volunteer, read, study and are a part of this community. With two parks and many volunteers it is nearly impossible to estimate the amount of time volunteered on behalf of Rivergrove. The community is far more than the legal city. It is the neighbors who check on each other and who help out without even being asked. It is the people who greet each other out walking their dogs, exercising and just being outside. Honestly it is surprising how many people know each other and how much kindness there is when people in Rivergrove interact.
Like most large cities with mottos like "Boston Strong", Rivergrove citizens should be proud of the strength that they show each and every day. I am grateful for many things in Rivergrove such as: the volunteers who make events work, the people who go door to door to get people to the Ice Cream Social on one of the wettest days of the year, the people who set up tables for outdoor events, those who pull a weed, who notice an animal, who pick up a piece of trash, the volunteers on Committees, the Planning Commission and the City Council. People all over this city contribute to making Rivergrove a special place.
A big Rivergrove Thank You! Goes out to; the Citizens, the families and people who live here, the volunteers, those who attend the committees, attend meetings, on work to make Rivergrove a better place, the Lake Oswego School District, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue District which is a part of the community and attends all functions that they can and entertain the kids and the adults with the fire trucks and everyone who give to the City of Rivergrove.
Thank you to all of Rivergrove and,
A Very Happy Thanksgiving!

HERE ARE TWO MESSAGES FROM OUR FRIENDS AT TUALATIN VALLEY FIRE & RESCUE
Spread Holiday Cheer for Children in Need
This holiday season, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters invite community members to help them brighten the holidays of children in our community by donating new, unwrapped toys at their local fire station.
TVF&R is teaming up with the KGW Great Toy Drive for the 13th year to provide toys to our community’s less-fortunate families in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The toys collected during the toy drive are distributed to needy kids in our area with the help of more than 130 local organizations and hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
TVF&R fire stations are once again accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages now through Tuesday, Dec. 24.
With the help of our generous community members, TVF&R firefighters were able to fill a fire engine and box truck full of toys to deliver to the KGW studios last December. This year, the need continues to be great, and firefighters hope to exceed last year’s collection effort.
Rivergrove residents can drop off toy donations at Tualatin Station 34, 19365 SW 90th Court.
Families in need of holiday assistance this year can call 211 or visit 211info.org.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue knows that we serve a generous, compassionate community. Thank you in advance for helping us contribute to brighter holidays for children in need. For a complete list of TVF&R fire stations, visit www.tvfr.com.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is Recruiting Volunteers
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is grateful for its dedicated cadre of volunteers, who aid us in our mission to create safer communities.
We are in the process of seeking more men and women who are willing to donate their time and serve their community as TVF&R volunteers. This exciting opportunity gives individuals a chance to be part of their fire district.
TVF&R offers two ways you can choose to serve your community:
- Incident Support Volunteer: As an incident support volunteer, you would bring rehabilitation units to major incidents to provide TVF&R firefighters assistance with breathing apparatus, medical monitoring, and other support in a non-firefighting capacity. You would also participate in public education, attend parades, support community events and activities, and attend monthly drills.
- Auxiliary Volunteer: As an auxiliary volunteer, you would play an active role in TVF&R’s public education program and attend community events. This is a non-emergency response role. You may work once or twice a week or even a few times each year, depending on your area of interest and commitment. You could also help restore and maintain TVF&R’s fleet of antique apparatus.
All volunteers must be 18 years old or older, have a high school diploma or an equivalent certificate, pass a criminal background check, have a valid Oregon driver’s license, and live within TVF&R’s service area. All volunteers must obtain CPR and automated external defibrillator training within six months, and incident support volunteers must also obtain emergency medical responder certification within 12 months.
Want to learn more? TVF&R is holding a Volunteer Interest Open House on Tuesday, January 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Station 50, 12617 SW Walnut St., in Tigard.
For more information about TVF&R’s volunteer program or to apply to become a volunteer, visit www.tvfr.com/careers. Applications will be accepted through January 12, 2020.
