Dangerous Willow Trees Removed at Lloyd Minor Park

Bartlett Tree Experts did tree cutting work on 11 Corkscrew Willows that line the north end of Lloyd Minor Park on Friday, Feb. 21st and Saturday, the 22nd.

The trees were assessed by the City Arborist and it was determined that they were dangerous trees that created a clear public safety hazard.  They presented a foreseeable danger of personal injury or property damage.  Several of the trees had already lost large limbs. The arborist noted that with leaves on the branches this year, a few more trees would have surely lost larger limbs.

The bulk of the trees were cut and some wood was stacked next to the remaining above ground trunks.  Our few days of drier weather allowed the arborist to have the smaller cut limbs chipped up and used as mulch for Heritage Park.  When the soil is drier, the arborist can access the park with heavy equipment and the remaining trunks will be removed and the stumps ground out.

New trees will be planted in the Fall this year in order to allow them to root and establish over next Winter.  This will ensure they get off to a good start next Spring.  We will be asking for volunteers to help keep the trees watered over the next few years to ensure they thrive.  Please let us know if you'd be willing to be a summer watering volunteer.

Wood Chips at Heritage Park

The City has been fortunate to receive wood chips from various projects the City Arborist is working on, as well as the removal of the Willows at Lloyd Minor park.  Our intrepid chip spreader, citizen Jennifer Crock, has been distributing them on the park trails and at the turn around at the end of Dogwood, to keep mud down.  She's also flattening down the mole mounds along the trails.  We appreciate the service of our local citizens to make our park a better place for the community.

Zoning and Development Code Open House March 5th

As noted in last month’s newsletter, the City of Rivergrove is pleased to announce that it will be revising our Zoning and Development Code! This process begins with you, our citizens. The City will start the process by holding an open house at the new Fire and Rescue Station on Thursday, March 5th, from 7 until 9 PM.  The meeting will be held in the Community Meeting Room of the new station, which is on the right-hand side of the building and is in the area of the building with red metal siding. The entrance to the room is behind the front of the building and next to the limited parking area, which is also on the right-hand side of the building. Light refreshments will be served.

The intent of this meeting is to explain the revision process steps, to talk about the goals of the new Zoning and Development Code, and most importantly, to gather input from the community.  It will be a goal-setting meeting before we embark on drafting the code revisions. We invite you all to attend and share what you would like to see included in the new code, what you think it should accomplish, and what (if anything) you specifically want to see updated from the old code.  Please don’t feel intimidated if you are not familiar with the old code, or are unfamiliar with technical code language. Staff will be there to help answer any questions you may have and explain any code technicalities. We hope to see you there!

New Meeting Place for City Meetings

TVFR Station #39 is completed and staff are now at the building. They are still somewhat “moving in” but have graciously agreed to allow the City to use their public meeting room for our March meetings.  We know you will enjoy the adult-sized chairs and tables of this wonderful meeting room.

Our Planning Commission will meet there on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7 PM (Please note the change in date from their regular meeting day). Our City Council will meet at their regular meeting date, Monday, March 9th at 7 PM at the new location as well.

Please note the public meeting room is located in the area of the building with the red metal siding. Parking is available on the right-hand side of the building and the entrance to the meeting room is also on that side of the building.

Station 39 Open House: You are invited!

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue invites you to attend an open house at Station 39 at 7080 SW McEwan Road in Tualatin from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28. A brief ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m.

Please join us for this free, family-friendly event. Guests can tour the new fire station, meet firefighters who operate out of the station, learn fire and life safety tips, and take a quick lesson in hands-only CPR.

Parking is available on-site. Follow signs for nearby overflow parking.

Your levy investment made the construction of this new station possible and strengthened our emergency response system. TVF&R is grateful for your support while Station 39 was being constructed.

We look forward to seeing you.

Honor Rivergrove Celebrities

Here in Rivergrove there are many residents who have been exceedingly generous with their time or talents for the benefit of our city or its citizens. This might be cleaning the river, cutting back overgrown ditches or helping a senior citizen. We would like to honor one such outstanding person from time to time in the Rivergrove Report and are asking for your help in choosing candidates. Please contact Council President, Brenda Ruble at 503-502-0000 or Brenruble@aol.com to pass along your suggestions.
